Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about LetterBorder word puzzle game.
What is LetterBorder?
LetterBorder is a free daily word puzzle game where you form words from letters arranged on four sides of a square. Your goal is to use all 12 letters by chaining words together, where the last letter of one word becomes the first letter of the next.
How do I play?
Create words using the letters on the board, but you can't use consecutive letters from the same side. Chain your words together (last letter of one word = first letter of next word) until you've used all 12 letters at least once. Check out our detailed guide on the How to Play page for more information.
What is Par?
Par is the target number of words needed to solve the puzzle efficiently. If the par is 4, that means the puzzle can be solved in 4 words. You can beat par (use fewer words), meet par (use exactly par words), or exceed par (use more words). Beating par is more challenging!
How does the streak work?
Your streak tracks how many consecutive days you've solved the daily puzzle. Solve today's puzzle to continue your streak! If you miss a day, your streak resets to zero. Build a long streak to show off your consistency and word puzzle skills.
Is this Letter Boxed from The New York Times?
No, LetterBorder is an independent word puzzle game. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The New York Times or their Letter Boxed puzzle. LetterBorder is our own creation inspired by similar word puzzle mechanics.
Is LetterBorder free to play?
Yes! LetterBorder is completely free to play with no subscription required. There's no app to download - just visit the website and start playing. We offer a daily puzzle plus unlimited practice mode to help you improve your skills.
When does the daily puzzle reset?
A new daily puzzle is released every day at midnight (12:00 AM) in your local timezone. Once you solve today's puzzle, come back tomorrow for a fresh challenge!
Can I replay old puzzles?
Yes! Visit our Archive page to browse and replay past puzzles from the last 30 days. This is a great way to practice and improve your skills, or to catch up on puzzles you missed.
What is Practice Mode?
Practice Mode generates unlimited random puzzles for you to solve. It's perfect for building your skills, learning strategies, or just enjoying more puzzles when you've already completed the daily challenge. Practice puzzles don't count toward your streak.
What counts as a valid word?
Valid words must be at least 3 letters long and found in our dictionary. Proper nouns, abbreviations, and hyphenated words are generally not accepted. The word must follow the rule that consecutive letters can't come from the same side of the board.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required! Your progress, including streaks and completed puzzles, is saved automatically in your browser's local storage. This means your data stays private and on your device.
Can I play on mobile?
Absolutely! LetterBorder is designed to work beautifully on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers. The interface is touch-friendly and responsive, so you can play anywhere, anytime.
What if I get stuck on a puzzle?
Don't worry! Take a break and come back with fresh eyes. Try looking for longer words that use difficult letters. You can also check the archive to practice with other puzzles and build your strategy. Remember, there's no time limit - solve at your own pace!
How is par calculated?
Par is determined by the shortest possible solution for each puzzle. Our algorithm finds the most efficient word chain that uses all letters, and that number becomes the par for the day.
Can I share my results?
Yes! After solving a puzzle, you can share your results with friends. Your share message shows your score and whether you beat par, without spoiling the puzzle for others.
